Happy New Year to all

Saturday, December 31 2005

...and to all a belated Merry Christmas! Sorry that I have not written to most of you in a while, but I like to have interesting stories of travel and adventure in my emails rather than describing what I have for breakfast in the morning, and there hasn't been an awful lot going on in the first department. In the... read more

The End, Part Two - The Beginning

Saturday, February 12 2005

Hi all, Mat back with a different distribution list, a spanky new website and a lack of anything interesting to say, being as I am back in that life of Monday to Friday work drudgery that most of us call an existence. But after five weeks of working I'm a little tired so it's time for a holiday in Australia! See all... read more

Rupert, Tony and Maureen's dog. In one of his rare moments awake.

Me out the front of Maureen and Tony's house, in Lilbourne, near Rugby.

I had an amazing christmas here, all whisky, wine, beer, open fires, fluffy dogs, snow, walks in the country, fantastic meals and even better company. A couple of days of complete relaxation followed by a couple of anarchy as some of Duncan's younger relatives arrived.

Awesome time.

Me and Shalene at the office party. Haven't had a shot of me on this site for a while so worth putting one on where I'm looking alright, and have someone nice in front of me to distract...

Brought the (pretty much completed) horse's head out for our christmas party.

A bunch of us that went walking on the Isle of Wight. We're at the Needles here.

Me, Nick Branson and Krzysztof Lachor, both mates from work, after completing the Bradfield mini-triathlon. A 400m swim, 20km ride and 5km run.

Kris did the best with a total time of 1hr 15min
Nick was next with 1hr 20 min
And I, despite rolling my ankle and having my bike chain come off, and especially despite a swimming style similar to a river barge, came in at 1hr 26min.

It was a great day though, great marshalls, good organisation and a good time was had by all.

Me at the south of England. Seven (eight really, they couldn't count in those days) rollings hills end ubruptly in cliffs on the south coast. The undulating pattern they show made me wonder - if it's seven sisters, why are there not fourteen hills? Pretty to look at, tiring to walk over.

One of the few clear sky days I've had here...

Just so I can tell them that they're on the internet... two of my good friends from the hostel I stayed at while looking for work. Kate on the left is crazy, don't mind her. Mariam seems sane.
