2007 / Georgia

Just playing around with the camera, this one worked out - two Jannahs! (God help us all)
Seeing double

On the train from Tblisi, Georgia to Yerevan, Armenia. A really cool old soviet sort - even had the little old lady on every carriage to make sure you didn't put your feet on the seats. It seemed absolutely anything else was acceptable though.
Soviet train

Well, a monastery really, but as this one is right on the Azeri border that makes it pretty much the last Christian place on this latitude until you get to Vietnam. Beautiful stark scenery.
Last church

You know, I forget where this is exactly. It was on a day trip out of Georgia to this ancient town where the whole place was built out of the rock.

I do remember that the wind blowing throught the hole I took this picture through was ridiculously strong.
Cave town

Stalin's childhood home, now encased in its own temple structure. The city was rebuilt around it too, just for good measure.
Stalin's Digs

Kutaisi cathedral

Kutaisi

This Roman fort at Gonio fascinated me. For a long time it represented the absolute edge of the Roman Empire. You can imagine the legionaries inside, thinking - in here, Civilization. Out there, barbarians.

It is in a fantastic state, we walked all the way around on top of the walls.
The edge of the Empire

A very blurry photo, but it is the only one I have of the Gori cityscape. Very strange to think of there being about fifty Russian tanks rumbling around there now.
