On the car ferry from Flores, I met three brothers who help run an education charity founded by their parents. I agreed to speak to a class of college students and spent a couple of hours talking about life in London, and my trip. It's fun to be a star!

This road was built about a week before I arrived, and was being extended past my hotel while I was there. Nobody seemed to mind about the fishing piers being destroyed in the process, or the fact that there is a perfectly servicable asphalt road on the other side of the buildings...

Mt.Bromo is actually the one on the left. This is from the tourist town of Cemuru Lavang, on the lip of the Tengger crater. The two volcanoes are inside the crater.

As it is known apparently. This is a big statue in the middle of Jakarta and pretty much the only place with any peace and quiet within 50 kilometres. The top is made of lots of gold. I see it as a poor man's Ashgabat rocket ship - Turkmenistan obviously has more money to spend on big sticky-up things than Indonesia.

I have always wanted to see this remnant of a monster volcano. Luckily, my ferry from Sumatra to Java passed close enough.

...just not by bicycle for a change! This is from the small boat which whipped me from Batam, near Singapore, to Temberleh, middle of nowhere, Sumatra.

Mt.Bromo is an ancient volcanic crater rising to about 2,200 metres. It's fun to ride back down to the coast!
