2004 / Nicaragua

This volcano sits above Granada. You can see where there was a lava flow once, the flow curving out to the right when it hit the water and forming lots of little islands. Very cool.

In the middle of Lake Nicaragua there is an island formed by two volcanoes. Not surprisingly, it looks like a bit of a figure 8, with the two cones rising up on each half and a very nice beach stretching between them. This shot is from the top of one of the cones, where there was a lagoon which had filled in the crater.
